Got Questions? We Have Answers.

Detroit Housing Commission has many properties ranging from family sites to high rise buildings. Each property has its own waitlist. You can apply to as many properties as you like if the waiting list is open for that site and the household is qualified.  As waiting lists open applicants need to be aware of several points to be successfully added to a property’s waiting list:

  • Applications need to include all members of the household.
  • All members of the household will need to provide birth certifications, social security cards and valid state identification.
  • Ensure that any household preferences are marked correctly. These preferences could potentially include VAWA, Elderly/Disabled, displaced by federal disaster, and Veterans preference. Only mark the preferences that apply to your household. DHC does verify preferences and adding preferences that the household does not qualify for will only delay the eligibility screening for everyone.
  • DHC offers income-based housing. Household income and asset information is required to be added at application.

***As an applicant it is important to note that any changes to the household, including addition or removal of household members, address, phone number, or income, need to be changed through the Rent Café portal (link). DHC cannot be held responsible for communicating with the household if the contact information is not accurate. Households may be removed from the waiting list if DHC cannot reach them via email and/or phone.***
